Some pictures to share

Views of La Paz from the top of the valley (notice the futbol stadium...I want to go to a game!)

Here are 2 of the other chicas (Liz and Erin) in front of our casa.

This is our Bolivia mama, Senora Elizabeth, and me.

I was excited to see that there is an opportunity to see Annie, one of my favorite childhood movies, while I am here!

Yo quiero este perro pequeno!!! Que lindo!!!! Greg, can I buy it for us??

El autobus is the main mode of transportation here in La Paz. They drive by very fast and open the door almost without stopping the bus and you jump in. We rode one today to El Alto, a town near to La Paz to work at Hospital Los Andes. The ride was about 30 minutes and cost 2.50 Bolivianos, which is about US 30 cents.

This was one of the mamas we saw today at Hospital Los Andes with her 1 month old son. This is typical Bolivian dress for the women - especially the hat which balances carefully on their heads. Supposedly if they wear it straight it signifies that they are married and if they wear it to the side it signifies they are single. It is very common for them to carry their babies on their backs and the babies are wearing muchas ropas (a lot of clothes) and have many blankets because it is muy frio (very cold) especially in the morning and at night (can be 20-30's F).

This was today's almuerzo (lunch). We had maiz (corn), queso (cheese) and papas (potatoes). Lunch is the biggest meal of the day and quite a social gathering here in La Paz. Breakfast and dinner are small meals and usually consist of pan (bread), cafe (coffee) or tea, and queso (cheese). In the picture to the right is 2 of my housemates (Erin and Zarah) and Mauricio (our Senora's youngest son) who was not too excited about having his photo taken! Notice also in the background you will see Veronica who is washing our clothes for us by hand outside! She is muy simpatica!
